Show Review

The first of Bellyworld’s SILK ROUTE events got off to a flying start on Sunday 28th September 2008

The ‘highlighted’ dance genre was BHANGRA and we were lucky enough to have the dancers and musicians from the BHANGRA BAHARAN PANJAB or ‘Seasons of Panjab’ troupe

Dancers Kuldip and Joyti opened the show in gloriously energetic yet delicate style in two gorgeous Panjabi songs

SAJIDA then took the floor in a wonderfully sensuous rendition of MEHBOOBA or ‘Beloved’ from the hit Bollywood film SHOLAY

The incomparable Ewa Horsfield moved us effortlessly from India to Egypt with the first of two dances in her delectable style

Bellyworld’s Nancy and Michelle performed an irresistibly upbeat Khaleegy ‘Sahran Maaki’ with much hair-tossing!

ESZTER then gave us a delicious classic BELEDI number ‘Tahta as Shoubak’ before Julie and Elif of SAMSARA delighted the audience with their Indian Fusion and stunning drum solo

It was then turn for the other member of the Bellyworld trio to wow the audience with her musicality and fine stick work as Eva Green danced to ‘Lubna’

Sajida returned with a delightfully cheeky Bhangra piece before Ewa Horsfield brought the house down with a sizzling folk drum solo ‘Hagalla’

At that point we thought we had better bring the boys on! The whole BHANGRA BAHARAN PANJAB troupe took the place by storm in a wonderful energetic and colourful finale

Thank you to all of our performers for a wonderful show!
